Leeroy Simpson, the founder and original president of Michigan Mopar Muscle, passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 22, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family.  Leeroy was 55 years old.  After being diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in August of 2016, he waged an incredible war against cancer for 5 ½ years, enduring 127 Chemo treatments in that time.  He battled and defied cancer till the bitter end.  He exemplified the qualities of courage and bravery.  Below is a link for his obituary.

Michigan Mopar Muscle became reality because of a vision Leeroy had for a car club that would be filled with compassionate, good and kind people who loved all things Mopar.  He had experienced how some car clubs were not very inviting and were critical of who and what cars they would allow in their club.  Leeroy did not think that was right. He thought he could get a group of Mopar lovers together that would be welcoming to anyone who wanted to hang out with people of like mind, to enjoy their cars, no matter what condition they were in or their social status.

It all started back in 2003 at the Frankenmuth Autofest.  Leeroy would call you and say “What ya doin son?’  Then he would convince you that you needed to be someplace because a good time was in store.  And he did that for the Frankenmuth Autofest that year.  He got 5 Mopar lovers to come out and park together, and the seed was planted.  Leeroy got to work doing what he did best, talking and selling.  He tirelessly called and approached people and told them about a club he wanted to start and convinced them they needed to join. He sold it as “The Friendly Car Club”, so in 2004, MMM became a reality, and the rest is history.

Leeroy’s personality was perfect to head up this new club. He was so energetic and full of life. His bubbly disposition was infectious.  Of course, it helped that his loving wife Michelle was at his side the whole time. Founding member, Larry Lempicki, nicknamed by Leeroy as Mr. Norm, said,

“The day I met Leeroy, my world and circle of friends got bigger than I could ever imagine.  I always felt it an honor to be in Leeroy’s circle of friends.  I have lifelong friends that I consider my second family because of this beautiful man’s vision. I will deeply miss him.  There will never be another Leeroy, I nicknamed him ‘The Godfather” at one of our club meals.  He sat at the head of the table just grinning looking at everyone having a good time together.  His vision had become a reality”

Thank you and God bless you Leeroy Simpson, may you rest in peace dear friend.
